Technology enabled care

Technology enabled care (TEC) supports people to live the lives they want - independently, confidently and safely. It used to be called Assistive Technology.

TEC provides personalised, practical support at home and in the community, helping people:

  • Stay in control:
Managing daily routines, health needs and independence with confidence.
  • Stay in touch:
Feeling connected to family, carers, and local support - reducing isolation and offering peace of mind.
  • Stay safe and well:
Spotting risks early, preventing crises and getting the right support when it’s needed.

How TEC supports everyday life

We offer a wide range of technology solutions tailored to each person’s needs, including:

  • ways to call for help when needed
  • ways to monitor wellbeing and spot changes early
  • tools that help with memory, prompts or routines
  • smart sensors that keep people safe day and night
  • support for families and unpaid carers through reassurance and regular updates

Every solution is chosen based on what matters to the individual and not on the technology itself. It can provide assistance whenever it's needed, 24 hours a day.

See our information on specific types of technology.

Our TEC strategy is attached to this page. It shows the ways we're looking to develop the service.

Who can access TEC

TEC may be helpful for adults of any age who want support to stay independent, manage risks, and feel safe at home or in the community.

TEC can form part of a care and support package so, speak to your adult care worker or contact Call Derbyshire if you're interested.

If you aren't known to Adult Social Care, but feel you have Care Act eligible needs, you can ask for an assessment

If you can't complete the online form, you can contact Call Derbyshire, telephone: 01629 533190 for support.

Alternatively, you can arrange TEC privately.

TEC provided via Derbyshire County Council

Medequip Connect provide the TEC service for all our funded or part funded clients across Derbyshire.

Your worker will discuss your eligibility and associated costs (if applicable). Your worker will also discuss with you the in-person responder service, if you're living in our pilot areas (Amber Valley, Erewash, North East Derbyshire and Derbyshire Dales).

See more information about the in-person responder service.
