You're welcome to pre-order 3 documents in advance of your visit, so do include these reference numbers when calling or emailing us. We can take pre-orders by phone no later than 3pm the day before your visit (if visiting on a Tuesday that would be by 3pm the previous Friday). Orders received the day before by email cannot be guaranteed.

If you'd prefer not to visit, you can use our copying and research service.

Before you visit

We're part of the national Archives Card system. You'll need to register for an Archives Card if you don't already have one and want to view original archive documents. Bring suitable ID with you so we can issue your new card when you arrive.

If you don't want an Archives Card, please still register on the system so that we'll be able to log your visit. See our privacy notice for more information.

If you just want to use our local studies library, public computers, and microfilm machines, you don't need an Archives Card.
