In my current role I support the council’s strategic planning and corporate performance management. I am involved in the development of the council and service plans with a subsequent focus on reporting progress and performance to the council’s management and leadership throughout the year. This involves developing an understanding of the plans, identifying the data available to report on performance, forming strong working relationships with colleagues in other departments and providing challenge to ensure robust reporting. To achieve this, I manage and lead on developing the council performance management system working with colleagues and the system suppliers to maximise use and provide the best user experience. I develop briefings and presentations to support the council’s senior managers and cabinet members to review performance and I am also involved in projects to further improve our approach to performance management, for instance I am currently involved in working with colleagues across the council to implement an approach to integrating performance, finance and risk information to assist the council to have a broader understanding of how it is performing and to support strategic decision-making.
However, we are not limited to specialist areas, and we are encouraged to get an understanding of all the work in the team and provide support and ideas. This helps forge a strong team dynamic and means help is only ever a conversation away.
