Weight limits - vehicles

All vehicles in the UK are subject to weight limits.

The weight limits are given on the manufacturer's plate or the Department of Transport plate attached to each vehicle. They are determined by the technical specification of the vehicle and the need to protect UK roads and bridges from excessive wear and tear.

Vehicles over 41 tonnes operate under special arrangements. It is illegal to exceed these specified limits.

The Trading Standards service works in partnership with other agencies such as the police and the Department of Transport to carry out routine checks on the weight of goods vehicles on the county's roads.
