Farmers and contractors

Watch our short video clip to learn about how farmers help out during bad weather on top of their day job.

Ralph Godber has been on standby to help clear snow and ice from local roads for the last seven years.

Take a look at this clip to find out more about how farmers and other contractors help us deal with winter weather in their local community.

We've a network of farmers and contractors with ploughing or gritting equipment who help us clear snow.

If you're a farmer or contractor with ploughing or gritting equipment, we want to hear from you.

Every contractor signed up will get a minimum payment of £200 − even if it doesn't snow.

Winter maintenance requirements

  • equipment - we need you to provide your own equipment
  • hours of work - normal working hours would be between 7am until 7pm Monday to Friday and the contract would run from 1 October 2018 to 30 April 2019.
  • insurance - you would need to arrange appropriate insurance
  • service - you’ll be expected to provide the service within 90 minutes of a call out - we’ll let you know which roads you need to cover

Whether you can provide gritting services or simply clear snow from our roads, your contribution could really help your local community.

Read and complete the conditions of contract attached to this page, telling us the type of equipment you have available, insurance details, your hourly rate of payment and how quickly you could respond to requests for help.

Guidance on filling out the section on insurance is also included on the form.

If you have any questions about the details you need to provide or filling in the form please tel: 01629 536894.

The closing date for returning forms is 11am on Friday 28 September 2018.

Quotations will be accepted by email: or by post to:

Derbyshire County Council
Darley Dale Depot
Station Lane
Darley Dale

Your details will be assessed against any other quotations we receive based on your insurance, equipment, hire rates, availability, location, the minimum amount of time you’d be prepared to work and how quickly you could respond to calls for help.

We’ll contact you in September to let you know whether or not your application has been successful.
