The following are events happening across the county in your local library branches.

Feel free to use our libraries as a space to bring your crafts, read, write or study. We have free wi-fi in all our branches.

Alfreton Library

  • Computer Buddy sessions. Tuesday mornings, 10.15am and 11.15am: learn how to use a computer and other digital skills. Booking is essential. Contact library for details.
  • Craft and Chat. Once a month on Friday evening. Suitable for adults of any age, just drop in with your craft projects and feel free to bring refreshments. Contact library for details.
  • Crafty Saturday. Once a month: 10.30am to 12.30pm. Drop-in event for families. Contact Alfreton Library for details.
  • Family-led board games. Once a month: 10am to midday. Contact library for details.

Ashbourne Library

  • Ashbourne and District U3A Beginners Bridge Group. Mondays, 1.30pm to 3.30pm

Bakewell Library

Belper Library

  • Board Game Club. Drop in to play a selection of modern board games. Fourth Tuesday of the month, 4pm to 6pm. This is a free event suitable for families, teens, and adults. Contact Belper Library for more information
  • Saturday family craft sessions. Drop-in sessions suitable for children 5 years and over. First Saturday of the month, 10am to 1pm. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult

Bolsover Library

  • Adult mindful colouring is always available for you to sit, relax and create.
  • Bolsover Library Reading Group. First Monday of every month, from 1pm (currently full)
  • Café Connects, incorporating Readers Retreat on the first Monday of the month. It's free of charge - just drop in between 10am and 11.30am. Chat in a friendly relaxing atmosphere.
  • Craft Workshops. Four times a year. Phone us for details, or ask in the library

  • Jigsaws. We have a jigsaw corner at Bolsover, with lots of puzzles to borrow. We always have a collaborative puzzle on the go as well, so why not have a go if you're in the mood to puzzle

  • Silent Reading Circle - Introverts Unite! Bring your own book or choose a library book to sit and read quietly in our Meeting Room. No commitment, pressure or expectation. Bring your own warm drink in a sealed travel cup or flask. Wednesdays between 4pm and 5.45pm or Saturdays between 11am and 1.30pm.
  • Stitch and Save. Last Tuesday of the month from 2pm to 3.30pm. It's free of charge - just drop in. Learn how to bring new life to old clothes and fabric or try a simple sewing project. All materials are provided.
  • U3A Bolsover District. U3A hold events throughout month including a book group, play reading, current affairs, true crime, and mixed media, email boldu3a@outlook.com for enquiries and further details
  • Writing for Wellbeing. Second Friday of the month, from 2pm to 3.30pm. It's free of charge - just drop in. Discover the benefits of writing in an informal, friendly group.

Chesterfield Library

  • Careers Service drop-in. Tuesdays, 9.30am to midday. Help with CVs and applications
  • Knit and Natter. Every other Wednesday (ask staff for details), 1pm to 3pm. This isn't exclusively for knitters - other crafters are welcome, such as crochet, sewing and so on

  • Lego club. Last Saturday of the month 10.30am to midday. All ages welcome to come down and build.
  • Readers Retreat. Second Friday of the month, midday to 1pm. Come and try our fun reader activities or just chill out with your book. Bring the book you are currently reading - we want to know all about it! If you want to get into reading, this is the place to do it.
  • Stitch and Save. Last Tuesday of the month, 10.30am to midday. Come to our friendly sessions and add new life into your old clothes, re-use the fabric to make something new or try one of our simple sewing projects. Everything is provided or you can bring something along you that you'd like to recycle. Suitable for all levels even if you have never sewn before.
