From 6 December 2023 a new parallel parking arrangement will be in place. When driving in, please follow the directions of site staff who will guide you to the nearest available parking space.

Before you visit

Find out everything you need to know including when you can visit, what's accepted, important safety information on our recycling centre page.

You should:

  • keep children and pets in cars
  • keep your distance from others when on site
  • sort your waste into different types before you arrive
  • sanitise your hands before arrival and as you leave
  • wear protective gloves, appropriate footwear and clothing
  • stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms

Composting is a great way to turn your garden waste and kitchen scraps into a useful compost instead of taking it to our sites. We have advice to make the most of the food you have and there's further information on Love Food Hate Waste.

Opening times

  • open from 8:30am to 6pm daily
  • closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day

The recycling centre may have to temporarily close to compact the skips with machinery or other unavoidable operational reasons. We'll keep closures to a minimum.

Re-use shop

Re-use is better for the environment as items can be kept in use for longer, without any processing like recycling. Derbyshire’s first re-use shop in partnership with HW Martins is open at Bolsover household waste recycling centre. The shop is open the same hours as the recycling centre, from 8.30am to 6pm.

The re-use shop provides an opportunity for local residents to purchase preloved items at low cost.

Typical types of goods sold in reuse shops:

  • furniture
  • crockery, pots, cutlery, kitchen goods
  • books, CDs, records, DVDs – all should be originals and not copies
  • ornaments
  • pictures, picture frames and pieces of art
  • garden furniture, garden tools, garden ornaments
  • premium clothing and footwear - given to the shop and not recovered from textile banks
  • toys and board games

We can't accept

  • safety helmets including cycle or motorcycle helmets
  • car seats for infants and children
  • no cosmetic goods
  • upholstered furniture that does not have a fire-retardant label
  • broken or defective toys
  • electrical goods (PAT testing is not currently available onsite so items can't be sold)

Items that are in good condition can be donated to the re-use shop for others to enjoy.

The items sold in the re-use shop have been donated at Bolsover household waste recycling centre and items from other recycling centres will also feed through this shop. Only materials housed within the re-use shop can be sold.

Age restricted items will require photographic ID before purchase for example knives.

Payment for items can be made by cash or electronic payments.
