The forum supports people living in Ilkeston and the surrounding communities within the Borough of Erewash. With more than 300 members, it is one of Derbyshire's largest and most active 50+ forums.
Over the years, the forum has organised a variety of informative events and activities for members, including presentations from organisations such as:
- Derbyshire Handy Van Service
- Age UK Derby and Derbyshire
- The Medaille Trust
- local history and environmental groups
The forum also produced a community recipe book featuring favourite recipes from members, beautifully illustrated by a family member of the forum's former chair. The book proved extremely popular and became a local bestseller.
Social activities
Alongside our quarterly open forum meetings, the forum organises a range of social activities and trips throughout the year.
Recent and popular visits have included:
- Bletchley Park
- Warwick Castle
- Chatsworth House
- Christmas shopping trips and festive markets
The forum also hosts a stall each year at Ilkeston Carnival, providing an opportunity to meet local residents, promote the work of the forum and encourage new members to get involved.
We continue to invite a variety of guest speakers to our meetings and welcome suggestions for future topics and activities.

Our open forum meetings offer a chance to connect with others, find out what's happening locally and hear from a variety of interesting speakers. Each session typically includes:
- guest speakers covering a range of informative and relevant topics
- opportunities to share views and discuss issues affecting older people
- updates on local services, projects and community developments
- entertainment and engaging activities
- opportunities to meet local organisations and community groups
- light refreshments and time to socialise
