Sending surplus food for animal feed

Food businesses, such as grocery shops, bakeries, confectionery manufacturers, or small supermarkets, can send surplus food for use in animal feed.

Redirecting surplus food into the animal feed chain is both cost-effective, and environmentally friendly.

All businesses sending surplus food to be used for animal feed must complete the feed hygiene registration form. Registration is free.

However, not all surplus food can be redirected into the feed chain. Products that cannot be sent as surplus food include raw meat, or meat products, raw fish, and seafood.

Please contact this department if you are unsure as to what may be used.
