Derbyshire Supported Employment Service

If you're a Derbyshire resident looking for work or need support with your current job we can help you overcome barriers to employment and achieve your work goals.


Whether you're looking for your first job, returning to work, need help staying in work, or want support to change or progress in your career, we're here to help.

We support adults with disabilities, long-term health conditions, neurodivergence, caring responsibilities, and other personal circumstances that may make finding or keeping a job more challenging. We also support young people who are not currently in education, employment, or training.

Who can access support

Our services are free for Derbyshire residents who:

  • are aged 18 or over
  • want support to access work-related opportunities such as training, qualifications, work experience, volunteering, apprenticeships, or paid employment
  • experience one or more of the following barriers/challenges to achieving their goals:
    • disabilities, long-term health conditions, or neurodivergence
    • mental health challenges
    • caring responsibilities
    • homelessness or housing difficulties
    • previous involvement with the criminal justice system
    • substance use recovery/challenges
    • being a care leaver or care-experienced young person
    • refugee or resettlement status
    • experience of domestic abuse, modern slavery, or exploitation
    • service in the armed forces
    • other circumstances that make it difficult to access or remain in employment

How we can help you

We believe that anyone who wants to work should have the opportunity to do so.

Our experienced team can support you to access:

  • employment opportunities
  • training, education and qualifications
  • apprenticeships and supported internships
  • work experience or volunteering
  • specialist wellbeing and support services
  • support to stay in work, adapt to changes, or progress in your career

The support you'll receive

We will work with you to understand your goals, skills, strengths, and any barriers you may be experiencing.

Support may include:

  • information, advice, and guidance
  • support to build confidence, develop skills, and prepare for the workplace
  • creating or updating your CV
  • job searching and applying for jobs
  • interview preparation and confidence building
  • identifying suitable training and development opportunities
  • support to access work experience, volunteering, or apprenticeships
  • signposting and referrals to specialist services
  • liaising with employers on your behalf
  • discussing workplace support and reasonable adjustments
  • helping you remain happy, healthy, and successful in work

Appointments can take place face-to-face in the community, by telephone, or online.
