We aim to ensure that a network of treated roads should be reasonably free of ice and snow for the majority of residents and businesses.
We grit more of our roads than most councils and tough decisions have to be made about which roads are treated and which aren't.
The main gritting routes include:
- main A roads
- most B roads
- most bus routes
- links to villages
- emergency service locations
- transport interchanges
- areas around schools
- some other roads which we know have specific difficulties in bad weather
Highways England are responsible for main trunk roads which pass through the county such as the motorway and Derby City Council are responsible for roads within the city boundary.
