Weight management

The latest figures from Public Health England show that in the UK more than 6 out of 10 men, and more than 5 out of 10 women are now overweight.

More than 6 out of 10 men are overweight or obese. More than 5 out of 10 women are overweight or obese

Closer to home, nearly a quarter of Derbyshire's population are now classed as obese (24.7%) and this can lead to serious long term conditions such as diabetes or heart disease.

Obesity is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths in England.

Excess weight can make it more difficult for people to find and keep work and it can also affect self-esteem and mental health.

We're responsible for making sure that there are weight management services in place in Derbyshire.

From losing a few pounds to personalised, long term, weight loss programmes, there are lots of options on offer.

Children's weight

Making sure that children and young people are fit, active and a healthy weight is important.

In the UK one in 5 reception aged children are now classed as overweight or obese, but this rises to one in 3 children in year 6.

Derbyshire has better than average levels of childhood obesity, but there's still lots of work to be done to make sure all our children are happy, healthy and fit for life.

We support initiatives to make sure this can happen, including breastfeeding support, exercise, health and nutrition schemes.

Health, Exercise and Nutrition for the Really Young

Health, Exercise and Nutrition for the Really Young (HENRY) is a countywide healthy lifestyle programme for parents of pre-school age children.

The Five60 programme

The Five60 programme aims to get school children thinking about making healthy choices and gives them the information they need to help them do it.

Portion control

Sometimes it's the simplest things that can make the biggest difference. Be Portion Size Wise is all about how making small changes to the amount you eat can make a big difference to your health.
