Libraries have resources to help with your local studies research.

You can research local, family or house history using our resources.

Books

Books, including county, town and village histories can be searched using our  library catalogue.

Many can be borrowed, but some are reference only.

Not every title is in the online catalogue yet, but we have a comprehensive card index at the local studies library in the Derbyshire Record Office.

Journals

From lead mining to family history, fully indexed for you at the local studies library in the Derbyshire Record Office and Chesterfield Library.

Newspapers

Newspapers are available on microfilm at some libraries.

Directories

Old trade and telephone directories are available.

Census

Census 1841 to 1911 via AncestryLibrary.com (free in all Derbyshire libraries), or on microfilm.

Maps

Old and modern Ordnance Survey and other mapping.

Photographs and illustrations

Many photographs and other illustration collections are on our free-to-view site on Picture the Past.
