First of all talk to your relatives and collect as much information as you can. Gather it all together and photocopy or write it down.
When you are ready to start your research, ask if there is anything at your local library to help you because several of the larger ones have some family history research materials for their local area.
Soon you will need to visit one or more of the bigger Local Studies Libraries. These are at Chesterfield and Matlock, in the Derbyshire Record Office.
It is essential to book an appointment before you visit so that there will be a microfilm machine for you to use and the staff will have time to help you.
