Joining the library

If you live, work or study in Derbyshire you can join the library.

When you've completed our form you'll be given a temporary library card number. A library card will be posted out to you within 10 working days, which you can use in any Derbyshire library or to register for our eLending services. In the meantime, you are welcome to use your temporary number in libraries, so you can start using our services straight away.

Call into your local library

We'll normally need to see a form of identification with your name and address on before we can give you a library ticket.

The documents we accept as proof of identification are:

  • driving licence
  • bank statement
  • building society book
  • Post Office savings book
  • welfare benefits book
  • pension book
  • bus pass
  • receipted bills
  • council tax demand
  • medical card

Just take one of these documents along to your nearest library and you'll be issued with a library ticket. If you have any more questions about how to join our staff will be happy to help.

Lost tickets

If you think you're already a library member but have lost your ticket, please contact your local library for a replacement.

Children

You're never too young to join the library.

Children under 13 years old

If you're joining in a library, a parent or carer needs to show one form of identification or have a valid Derbyshire library card. If you're joining online, the form should be completed by a parent or guardian.

Young people aged 13 and over

You'll need to show one form of identification or your b_line card.
