Maintenance of rights of way

We aim to maintain the public rights of way network in a safe condition. It isn't always possible to attend to every request for maintenance, however, we'll advise you of our decision following an inspection.

We're responsible for the maintenance to the surface of the majority of rights of way in Derbyshire, including the national park area. There are a few that are maintained by the landowner.

Our annual programme includes the strimming of paths, resurfacing and drainage.

We're not responsible for the maintenance of gates and stiles on public paths. This is the responsibility of the landowner. However, we do have a duty to follow up complaints about gates and stiles in disrepair.
