Definitive Map Modification Orders

We have a duty to process a Definitive Map Modification Order (DMMO), under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, where allegations have been brought to our attention that a path may exist that is not shown in the definitive map and statement or may be incorrectly recorded.

You can apply to amend the definitive map and statement (DMS) if you have evidence to show that it should be changed to add a new public right of way, or to upgrade, downgrade or delete existing routes. You may also make an application to alter the definitive statement.

Information and guidance on the process for making an application to amend the DMS, together with the application form and user evidence forms to be submitted, are attached to this page.

Register of applications

We maintain a list of applications to modify the definitive map and statement in accordance with the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 - Rights of Way - Modification Orders. They can be viewed on the register of applications for rights of way.
