The new space is being fitted with an upgraded alarm system, lighting and decoration to make it suitable for a small museum and art gallery, complete with a gift shop and activity room. The museum team are considering potential exhibitions, events and ways BMAG can support the local community, and are getting very excited about operating a visitor-facing service again. Admission will remain free.
The new mini BMAG will be open this Spring. Suggestions about what you would like to see included in the new service are always welcome. You can email: buxton.museum@derbyshire.gov.uk or tel: 01629 533540 or leave a comment on one of BMAG's websites or social media platforms.
Alongside planning for the temporary building, Derbyshire Museums Manager Martha Jasko-Lawrence and colleagues from Derbyshire County Council continue to have regular meetings with High Peak Borough Council about securing a permanent home for BMAG in the middle of town. Work will shortly get underway on assessing potential audiences for the planned permanent venue, and opportunities for retail and commercial elements, and this work will support future funding.

Events
Family Fun: Mosaic Workshop Monday 16 February 2026 10am to 3.30pm
What did the Romans ever do for us? Well, they loved their mosaics and 2,000 years after they marched into town, we can still take inspiration. The museum staff will be in the library next Monday 16 February, 10am to 3.30pm, to show you how to collage your own mosaic from bits of card and paper. The event is free. No need to book, just drop in!
