Million Trees

Our ambition is to support the planting of up to a million trees across Derbyshire by 2030 as part of our commitment to tackling climate change.

We're already over halfway towards reaching our target – which is great news. But to achieve our aim of planting a million trees by 2030, we are looking for support across the county. This will be in the form of:

  • landowners - you could be a landowner looking for support and guidance on how to plant trees on your land
  • businesses and partnerships - we are looking for businesses who would like to sponsor tree planting projects either by contributing trees or volunteering to plant trees in Derbyshire

If you would like more information on how you can get involved, please contact us by email: milliontrees@derbyshire.gov.uk

If you're a landowner with space available for tree planting in the south and east of the county, you may be interested in grants available for planting schemes as part of Derbyshire's Heartwood Community Forest.

Tree planting is a great way to teach pupils about the importance of nature and our natural environment.

Not only do trees act like sponges to remove carbon emissions from the atmosphere, they provide natural flood management, improve soil quality and increased wildlife habitats and biodiversity. Being out and about among trees and nature also improves our health and wellbeing, as well as the environment.

Your free tree will be delivered for you to plant between October 2024 and March 2025 and easy-to-follow information on how to plant and care for your trees can be found on our Million Trees website.
