Primary school swimming

Swimming is not only fun but is one of the best ways to stay fit and healthy and can be continued for a lifetime.

Learning how to swim can help to make sure that children stay safe in and around water.

We provide a service to enable primary schools to access swimming as part of the key stage 2 curriculum at pools around the county.

Children will learn how to swim using a variety of strokes and in different depths according to their ability.

They will also learn about water safety including recognising danger and using actions to help themselves and others.

Children receive aquatic award certificates at each level of swimming to recognise their good achievements.

To find out if your child’s school accesses the school swimming programme please contact the school.

If you wish to have further information about this programme then please contact the school swimming manager, email cs.schoolswimming@derbyshire.gov.uk.

For more information on swimming lessons in your local area please contact your district, borough or city council.
