More than 20 children visited our headquarters in Matlock, with all having the opportunity to take part in the debates chaired by Councillor Adams and Vice Chair Councillor Jodie Brown, and including topics on building on green spaces and children under 16 having smart phones.
The school children were given the opportunity to speak to councillors including Cabinet member for Health and Communities Councillor Dawn Abbott, Councillor Lewis Whitbread and Councillor Sarah Reaney, followed by a tour of County Hall.
Guest speakers attended including the council’s Libraries and Heritage team, Live Life Better Derbyshire team and two PCSOs from Derbyshire Constabulary, who did a question-and-answer session and showed the pupils their police car and items of uniform.
The visit ended with a rosette-making workshop and a final reflection on the day with councillors.
Chairman Councillor Nick Adams said:
“The schools took part in lively debates and it was interesting to hear their different viewpoints. A great time was had by students and councillors.”
