New electric car charging sites ready for use

Published: 14 July 2020

Three new electric car charging sites are now ready for use as part of our push to increase the number of charge points across the county.

The new sites, located at New Street Car Park in Bakewell, Edgefold Road Car Park in Matlock and Shawcroft Car Park in Ashbourne mark another positive step in our aim to tackle climate change and achieve net zero carbon emissions in Derbyshire by 2050.

Funded by the Government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and BP Chargemaster, up to eight cars can charge up at each site at any one time.

These three sites are the first of five to be installed across the Derbyshire Dales District Council and High Peak Borough Council areas.

Our Cabinet Member for Clean Growth and Regeneration Councillor Tony King said:

“We are delighted that residents can now start using the charge points at these sites. As part of our Climate and Carbon Reduction Manifesto we are keen to encourage more motorists to switch to electric cars which helps improve air quality in Derbyshire.

“We worked closely with our district and borough colleagues to identify sites for the charging points which are close to residential areas where there is limited off-street parking.

“The demand for electric vehicles is rising and these new sites, we hope, will encourage more Derbyshire residents to make the switch to electrical vehicles.”

Residents can find the location of the sites on the charge your car website. Drivers also need to register with this website to access the charge points.
