The site will close to the public from Monday 8 December 2025 and will reopen on Saturday 13 December 2025 while resurfacing work is carried out to keep the site safe for users.
Work has been planned during the week to minimise disruption to residents by avoiding closure during the weekends which are the busiest periods.
The closest alternative sites are at Bolsover and Northwood, Darley Dale, and opening hours at the Bolsover centre will be extended in anticipation of an increase in the number of people using the site while the Stonegravels centre is closed.
Bolsover will open an hour earlier and close an hour later than usual from 8.30am until 6pm while Stonegravels remains closed for maintenance.
Normal opening hours will continue at other household waste recycling centres.
Councillor Carol Wood, Cabinet Member for Net Zero and Environment, said:
“We need to carry out this essential work to maintain safety standards at our household waste recycling centre in Stonegravels.
“We’ll do all we can to get the work done quickly and reopen as soon as possible but please plan ahead and if at all possible take your waste to Stonegravels before 8 December 2025.
“We’ll be extending opening hours at our Bolsover site to help accommodate extra visitors while Stonegravels is closed and thank residents for bearing with us while we carry out this work.”
