Glossop Baton of Hope Celebration Day offers suicide prevention support

Published: 6 September 2023

We're joining a Baton of Hope celebration event to raise awareness of suicide prevention.

The Baton of Hope Celebration Day event takes place on Saturday 16 September in Norfolk Square, Glossop, between 10am and 2pm.

Our mental health and suicide prevention team will be joined by partners from Derbyshire wide organisations including mental health support, Derbyshire emergency services and others.

Our Cabinet Member for Health and Communities Councillor Carol Hart said:

“We live in very challenging times, and we know that the reasons why someone may choose to take their own life can be extremely complex.

“By helping to raise awareness about the support available, and starting conversations about mental health, we can help to reduce the stigma around suicide and take positive steps to help people who are struggling.”

There will be a range of mental health support on offer including men’s support groups, children and young people support.

There will also be activities for children and young people including creating a baton of hope to take home, a singing workshop from 11am to midday, all day crafts and much more.

At 12:15pm there will be a performance from The Georgia Bird Foundation Choir who will be performing the Baton of Hope Anthem plus other musical guests throughout the day.
