Until now Derbyshire Wayfarer Ranger tickets have only been available to purchase from libraries and tourist information centres as scratchcards, on buses and at railway ticket offices. Developing a digital solution ensures that the ticket is available to a wider number of people and is more accessible.
The tickets can now be bought through the TravelMaster App and displayed as an mTicket. Derbyshire Wayfarer Ranger tickets offer travel throughout Derbyshire and to key centres outside the county.
Once purchased tickets can be held on a phone for up to 31 days and then activated on the day of travel and it is possible to gift tickets to other people. Tickets are available for adults, children (under 16), groups and seniors (who hold either a Senior Railcard, Gold Card or other English National Concessionary Travel Scheme card.)
The Ranger tickets provide travel on buses and off-peak trains throughout Derbyshire as well as to and from Burton upon Trent, Leek, Macclesfield, Sheffield and Uttoxeter.
Councillor Charlotte Hill, Cabinet Member for Potholes, Highways and Transport, said:
“Making public transport simpler and more accessible are key objectives of Derbyshire County Council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan.
“Through our partnership with operators and TravelMaster it is great to bring this new way of buying tickets to both residents and visitors to the county.”
Digitising tickets is part of our Bus Service Improvement Plan scheme with the 1-day Derbyshire Wayfarer Bus tickets first being made available earlier this year as mTickets. 7-day Derbyshire Wayfarer Bus tickets are also available through the TravelMaster app to load to smartcard. Adding in the multi-modal bus and rail tickets is the next step in digitising the existing ticket range.
