The future of Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service (DACES)

Status: Open

Opens: 15 December 2025 - Closes: 22 February 2026

What this consultation is about

We are seeking your views on how adult learning in Derbyshire should be delivered in the future. DACES provides skills and learning opportunities for residents, employers, and partners, including:

  • courses leading to qualifications (English, maths, digital skills, childcare) for adults aged 19+
  • wellbeing and personal development courses
  • apprenticeships
  • supported internships for learners aged 18 to 24 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • study programmes for 16 to 19-year-olds (up to 24 with an EHCP)
  • alternative provision for electively home-educated learners aged 14 to 16

Changing community needs and funding arrangements mean we need to review how we deliver learning. Our priority is to ensure residents who need the most support, especially in disadvantaged areas, gain the skills to progress into further learning or employment.

Introduction and background

We are committed to providing a high-quality adult education service. We want your views on how to make it fit for the future; delivering learning effectively and in locations that work best for learners. No decisions will be made until we have considered all responses.

This consultation runs from 15 December 2025 to 22 February 2026. Please read the outline options and share your thoughts. You can also suggest alternative approaches.
