What this consultation is about
We provide low-level support for adults with their mental health. Low-level mental health support is about helping adults to manage their mental health in everyday life and stay well. The support is practical and community-based – such as talking to someone, joining a group, getting help with housing or budgeting, and building routines and confidence.
It is designed to support the health and wellbeing of our residents to help them remain healthy, connected, and independent in their communities
Adult social care pays for independent providers to deliver some support on its behalf, as well as providing some support directly. The services which provide this support to people in Derbyshire are:
- the Derbyshire Recovery and Peer Support Service is funded by us and provided by a small number of specialist charities
- the Derbyshire Mental Health Independent Living Service is funded by us and provided by a charity
- our Mental Health Enablement Service is provided in-house by adult social care colleagues
These services all help people to:
- cope with challenges in their day to day lives that are impacting on their mental health
- find where to go to get help and support with their mental health
- meet and talk to other people who have similar experiences
- maintain safe and stable home environments that help them live independently
These services do not provide clinical treatment or counselling and are different from specialist NHS mental health services for example GP or community mental health teams.
We would like your views to understand what people think about the current support provided including what people value and where there may be opportunities to improve support in the future.
As part of this broad consultation, we will also seek your views on a number of potential options:
- design and commission a new low-level support offer specifically for people with mental ill health and end the in-house Mental Health Enablement Service
- redevelop existing commissioned low-level support services to improve the offer for people with mental ill health and end the in-house Mental Health Enablement Service
- retain the in-house Mental Health Enablement Service and do not commission or redesign any other contracted services
- retain the in-house Mental Health Enablement Service and also commission or redesign a low-level contracted support offer
- do not provide any low-level support for people with mental ill health
You can help us by completing the online survey. If you need help to complete it telephone: 01629 531307 and someone from the Stakeholder Engagement and Consultation Team will get back to you with support as soon as possible. Paper versions of the questionnaire are available only for people who have, or are currently drawing on support.
