A6/A53 – Buxton Gateway consultation

Status: Open

Opens: 12 January 2026 - Closes: 20 February 2026

What this consultation is about

We're collecting your views on the A6/A53 junction in Buxton, which is an important gateway into the town.

Local groups have highlighted this location as one that could benefit from improvements to safety, accessibility, and the overall environment. It is acknowledged that this area currently experiences poor air quality, mainly because of queuing traffic and congestion, and we are committed to improving this junction for the wide range of people who use and live in this area. The benefits of improving this area will be focused around reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality and road safety with better connectivity, providing residents with opportunities to experience easier travel and cleaner air.

At this early stage, we are collecting your feedback to understand any issues you experience, and your ideas for the future of this area. Your input will help shape the design of improvements.

Results from this survey will help to inform how the next step in design could proceed, and any proposed future changes would require further formal consultation.

Paper copies of the survey are also available at Buxton, Tideswell and Bakewell libraries as well as at our mobile library bus
