The unaudited 2025 to 2026 accounts of local authorities were to be approved and published no later than 30 June 2026, with the public inspection period having commenced on or before the first working day of July 2026. However, in July 2026 we published a notice of delay in publishing our pre-audit Statement of Accounts 2025 to 2026.

We published our unaudited 2025 to 2026 accounts on 14 August 2026. The public inspection period will commence at 9am on 17 August 2026 and conclude at 4pm on 28 September 2026.

Members of the public and local government electors have certain rights in the audit process:

  1. From 17 August 2026 to 28 September 2026, between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, any person may inspect our accounts for the year ended 31 March 2026 and certain related documents (comprising books, deeds, contracts, bills, vouchers and receipts). This is by appointment, made by contacting by David Catlow, email: david.catlow@derbyshire.gov.uk, or by writing to him at the County Hall address on this page. Copies of the accounts and certain related documents may also be taken.

  2. From 17 August 2026 to 28 September 2026, between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, a local government elector for our area, or their representative, may ask the auditor questions about the accounts. Please contact the auditor to make arrangements to ask any questions.

  3. From 17 August 2026 to 28 September 2026, between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, a local government elector for our area, or their representative, may object to our accounts asking that the auditor issue a report in the public interest (under section 27 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014) and / or apply to the court for a declaration that an item in the accounts is contrary to law (under section 28 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014). Written notice of a proposed objection and the grounds on which it is made must be sent to the auditor and copied to Helen Barrington, Director of Legal and Democratic Services, by email: helen.barrington@derbyshire.gov.uk, or write to her at:
