Your civil marriage ceremony

Do you wish to personalise your civil ceremony with your own readings and music?

If you'd like to discuss any aspect of your ceremony, please contact your local superintendent registrar who will be happy to discuss your requirements.

Witnesses

You must ask 2 people to witness your marriage. They can be friends or relatives, and must be over the age of 16 and able to understand the ceremony. The witnesses usually sit either side of the bride and groom during the ceremony. They are asked to sign the marriage register and their names will appear on the marriage certificate.

Confetti

Confetti is a traditional part of any wedding. We are happy for your guests to throw confetti, but it would help us greatly if they could wait until they are outside the register office building before doing so.

Photography and videos

Your guests are very welcome to bring cameras to record the occasion. Photographs and videos are allowed in the marriage room at the discretion of the registrar.
