Suicide awareness training
Through the free suicide awareness training you will gain skills and confidence to help someone who may be considering suicide.
What you'll learn:
- how to spot suicide warning signs
- how to have a conversation with someone you're worried about
- where to signpost to for further support
- suicide is preventable
This training takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and you will get a certificate when you have completed the training.

Tackling gambling-related harm training sessions
This training has been developed in conjunction with the Royal Society for Public Health to make sure it meets the level 2 training criteria. It focuses on gambling within the UK, its prevalence, harms, and risk factors.
It covers identifying those at risk, how to intervene appropriately in the short-term, and formulating action plans to ensure long-term recovery.
Modules include:
- what is gambling, gambling prevalence and severity across Derbyshire
- motivations, risk factors, gambling related harm (GRH)
- identification, conversation starters, practical mental health first aid (MHFA) approach
- intervention (both practical short-term and long-term specialist)

Training places can fill up quickly and we may have to restrict the number of places offered to each organisation per course. All courses form part of a rolling programme with new dates being released on an ongoing, regular basis.

Mental health training
Mental health awareness training is for staff and volunteers in public-facing roles that would benefit from general mental health awareness or require an introduction to the topic of mental health.
We have a number of mental health first aid courses:
- mental health first aid adult is for staff and volunteers who are likely to be in contact with vulnerable adults
- mental health first aid youth is for staff and volunteers who are likely to be in contact with vulnerable young people
- mental health first aid refresher is for people who have completed an adult or youth mental health first aid course more than 3 years ago
Suicide bereavement training is for people who may come into contact with people bereaved by suicide.
Sexual health
Staff awareness training and sexual health promotion 'Sexual health -it matters'
The sexual health promotion team offer staff awareness training around supporting conversations with individuals about their sexual health and wellbeing. This includes free condom distribution for young people and adults, HIV and PrEP awareness, and sexually transmitted infections.
The team can attend your organisations setting to offer point of care testing, as well as signposting to Your Sexual Health Matters where individuals can order STI screening kits and postal condoms themselves.
Sexual health services are free, confidential, non-judgemental and can support you with culturally sensitive conversations around sexual health and wellbeing for your organisation. Multi-agency C-Scheme registration training
This half-day training course is for anyone working with young people aged 13 to 24-years-old who plan to distribute free condoms and lube within C-Scheme.
The training will provide professionals with the skills and tools to confidently register young people and issue condoms to young people within their setting under the Derbyshire and Derby City C-Scheme.
It will also enable professionals to better respond to sexual health issues in their work with young people.
