Buses

Two buses serve Markham Vale:

  • Services 1 and 1A - Newbold – Chesterfield – Duckmanton – Bolsover – Hillstown – Langwith
  • Service 81 - Bolsover – Staveley – Markham Vale

The closest train station to Markham Vale is Chesterfield. You can get train times from National Rail.

To get to Markham Vale from the train station, you'd need to travel by bus, cycle, car club or local taxi. We're less than 5 miles from the train station, which only takes about 10 minutes by car.

Car

Markham Vale is situated next to junction 29a of the M1. It's easily accessible from the motorway with excellent links to local towns.

From M1 junction 29a, north bound off

At the roundabout at the end of the slip road take the fourth exit sign posted Markham Vale, which takes you under the M1.

Go straight on at the next roundabout. Then travel 100m to a third roundabout and turn right (Markham Lane).

Travel 650m to a fourth roundabout. Markham Vale Environment Centre is on your left. Take the first exit off the roundabout to access the car park.

From M1 junction 29a, south bound off

At the roundabout at the end of the slip road take the first exit. Then travel 100m to a second roundabout and take the third exit (Markham Lane).

Travel 650m to a fourth roundabout. Markham Vale Environment Centre is on your left. Take the first exit off the roundabout to access the car park.

From Chesterfield

Take the A632 to Bolsover past the Royal Hospital and straight on through Calow, Arkwright Town and Duckmanton.

Follow the road straight on towards Bolsover until you reach a roundabout and turn left - it's signposted Markham Vale. This is Markham Lane.

Follow the road 550m to the next roundabout. Markham Vale Environment Centre is straight across the roundabout. Take the second exit to access the car park.

From Bolsover

Take the A632 to Chesterfield. At the roundabout at the junction of the A632, Buttermilk Lane and Markham Lane, take the second exit (Markham Lane).

Travel 550m to a second roundabout. Markham Vale Environment Centre is directly in front of you. Take the second exit off the roundabout to access the car park.

From M1 junction 29

Take the turning for Chesterfield A617 (Hasland bypass) and leave at the first exit for Temple Normanton.

At the top of the slip road turn right to Bolsover and follow the road until it reaches traffic lights at the junction with the A632 to Bolsover and turn right.

Follow the road straight on towards Bolsover, straight on at the first roundabout at Arkwright and the traffic lights at the Arkwright Arms.

At the second roundabout take the first exit (Markham Lane) and travel 550m to the next roundabout. Markham Vale Environment Centre is directly in front of you. Take the second exit off the roundabout to access the car park.

From M1 junction 30

Take the first exit onto the A616 (signposted Newark). At the roundabout take the fourth exit onto the A619.

Follow the road to the traffic lights at Mastin Moor and turn left onto Bolsover Road B6419.

Follow the road to the junction with the B6418. Turn right onto Chesterfield Road B6418.

At the roundabout, take the third exit signposted Markham Vale onto Markham Lane.

Follow the road to the roundabout. Markham Vale Environment Centre is directly in front of you. Take the second exit off the roundabout to access the car park.
