Learn about the experiences of our health and social care apprentices.

Health and social worker apprentice, Lauryn Thurman

Lauryn Thurman

I was successful in obtaining an apprenticeship position at Rowthorne HOP, I had to have support with the learning side of the apprenticeship as I have a learning disability which can cause me to struggle with reading and writing.

It was hard at first trying to juggle learning the hands-on work and completing the paperwork side of the apprenticeship, and I did at times feel overwhelmed, but I got a lot of support from all levels of staff and quickly found myself to be part of the team.

The support of the care team was brilliant, and they helped to put me at ease and supported me to learn the right way to carry out all the tasks which a care worker is responsible for.

I completed my apprenticeship within the time scale and was successful in obtaining a permanent part time job within the Rowthorne care team, where I have been ever since.
