Councils in Derby and Derbyshire are changing. Take part in our survey and tell us what matters to you in your area.

Mature driving assessments

We offer mature driving assessments to Derbyshire residents aged 65 years and over.

The mature driving assessment is an in-car driving session, designed to review and support your driving. It's an opportunity to receive honest feedback from a trusted professional, talk openly about your driving, and get practical advice.

Cost

The sessions are currently subsidised, with a reduced cost of only £20. This may change.

Length of session

The driving assessments last for up to 90 minutes. This includes driving time, discussion, and feedback between the driver and the driving instructor.

Vehicle used

Your driving assessment takes place in your own vehicle, as this is an assessment of your driving in a familiar environment.

Route

The assessment takes place on local roads that you're familiar with - starting and finishing at your home. As the roads are known to you, we hope you'll feel able to raise any driving difficulties. You can get advice on how to fix these.

Driving instructors

We have a list of approved driving instructors who have registered for this scheme, based around the county. We'll share this list with you when you apply. You can choose any instructor from the list, and arrange a date and time.

How to apply

To book a place on one of our sessions, please complete our online application form.

Apply for a mature driving assessment

Your application is a request for a mature driving assessment. Once we have your application, we'll email you within 10 days and explain how to pay for your place. Driving assessments depend on instructor availability in your area.

If you have any questions, email driving.assessment@derbyshire.gov.uk.
