They were created during the reclamation of disused railway lines and the former Manners colliery in the 1980s. A network of surfaced paths link the area to neighbouring residential areas and the Nutbrook Trail.
An area of wet grassland to the north-east of Manners Avenue has been designated a Local Wildlife Site.
