"I could probably name 10 pits along the Five Pits corridor. The main large collieries, starting from Grassmoor, Williamthorpe, Pilsley, Holmewood, Tibshelf, gave us the Five Pits name for the Five Pits Trail. But there was a lot more smaller collieries. Lings, for instance, which is just on our left hand side of the trail. There was a small colliery there – not a private one".
