Transcript of the audio file

"Hi my name is Vince Lennox I am a ranger with the Forestry Commission, you are currently stood on the highest man-made point in Nottinghamshire at 205 metres. The miner and the hill he is standing on is actually the top of a spoil heap which was part of Silverhill Colliery. The spoil would have been bought up here on a conveyor run which is the long main path which comes up from the bottom of the hill. The title of the miners' statue is 'Testing for Gas'. He is actually looking at his miners' lantern and looking at flame colour for noxious gases, and he is actually facing east. And if you look over to the horizon you will see another old pit tip site which is a flat topped mound, and beyond that is Lincoln Cathedral. If you turn and look south you will see Strawberry Bank at Huthwaite.

"This was the highest natural point in Nottinghamshire at 203 metres. Then if you look west on a good day you will see Crich Tower on the horizon, and following round back to north you will see Hardwick Hall on the hill, and then further over to the east on the far escarpment you can make out Bolsover Castle. And also if you turn further east you will see a tall brick chimney that is part of Pleasley Pit Tip Country Park. Although this is the highest point in Nottinghamshire it is probably not a good place to be in a thunderstorm as it is the highest point on a hill with a large metal statue!"
