Strategic planning

We work jointly with all the city, district and borough councils in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire on strategic and cross-boundary planning issues to assist them in preparing their local development plans.

Under the 'duty to co-operate' we also work jointly with councils in neighbouring areas to assist them in preparing the evidence base to inform the preparation of their local development plans.

The councils in Derbyshire are split into 4 different housing market areas for the purposes of strategic planning.

The councils in these housing market areas are working together with us, to produce either joint local development plans or aligned plans to a common timetable.

The housing market areas (HMA) covering Derbyshire and the district and borough councils within them are:

Derby HMA

• Amber Valley Borough Council

Peak, Dales and Park HMA

• Derbyshire Dales District Council
• High Peak Borough Council
• Peak District National Park

Northern HMA

• Bassetlaw District Council
• Bolsover District Council
• Chesterfield Borough Council
• North East Derbyshire District Council

Nottingham Core HMA

• Erewash Borough Council
• Broxtowe Borough Council
• Gedling Borough Council
• Nottingham City Council
• Rushcliffe Borough Council
• Ashfield District Council (part)
