New Minerals Local Plan

We submitted the Minerals Local Plan to the Planning Inspectorate on 29 November 2024. Updates can be found on the local plan services website.

The new plan will be known as the Derbyshire and Derby Minerals Local Plan and will cover the period to 2038. The plan covers the geographical county of Derbyshire, excluding that part which lies within the Peak District National Park.

The plan sets out its strategic priorities for minerals development through its vision and objectives. It includes strategic policies to address those priorities, including policies to enable the supply of important minerals and, where necessary, it identifies specific sites for mineral working. The plan also includes a set of non-strategic development management policies aimed at avoiding, minimising and mitigating the adverse impacts of minerals development.

We began preparing the plan in 2009 and have undertaken a number of consultations so far. You can view the documents that formed part of these consultations by visiting the relevant web page. Comments made at the consultation stages inform the ongoing development of the plan.

The latest consultation on plan preparation, the pre-submission draft plan, took place in spring 2023.

Anticipated future stages of plan preparation include:

  • submission of plan to the planning inspectorate
  • examination in public
  • modifications and adoption

The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) requires Mineral Planning Authorities to undertake an annual Local Aggregate Assessment (LAA). The purpose of the LAA is to identify the amount of aggregate mineral the plan should supply. The latest LAA is attached to this page.
