Special educational needs panels

Special educational needs panels meet regularly.

Statutory Assessment and Moderating Group (SAMG)

A group, including 2 local inclusion officers, an educational psychologist, a representative from the support services (special educational needs, hearing, visual and physical impairment), a headteacher and someone from parent partnership as an observer.

The panel meet every Thursday morning to read through and discuss the applications for statutory assessment. A decision is made about who goes forward for assessment.

Operational (OPS)

A group of 3 or 4 officers meet every Monday morning at Matlock to discuss and consider the placement of pupils and the type of provision they need - mainstream, enhanced resource, special, residential, independent or non-maintained special schools.

Assessment checking

Local inclusion officers meet every Monday afternoon to read, check and moderate the statements which have been newly written or amended by their colleagues before they go to the resources panel and are issued.

Resources

Two education officers and one local inclusion officer meet every Wednesday morning to agree the level of teaching and teaching assistant time which should be attached to newly written statements, or statements where requests for different levels of support are made.

Early years

The Derbyshire Early Years Special Educational Needs Panel is a multi-agency group that considers placements and services for Derbyshire children aged 0 to 5 years old with complex special educational needs.

Whilst most SEND provision within the early years is accessed through the early years panel, some resources are accessed independently through direct referral. You can find more information about support for early years special education needs on Derbyshire Local Offer.
