Our DBS team will email you a link and your login details in order for you to set up your DBS check.
ID documents
We need to see your ID documents in person in order to verify your identity to proceed with your DBS check.
You must provide 3 ID documents for us to verify your identity to proceed with your DBS check.
At least one ID document should be from group 1 and another 2 ID documents from either group 1 or 2.
Recent address change
We can only accept an ID document if it shows your current address on it. You must either obtain an ID document with the correct address on it or chose an alternative ID.
Change of name
Your ID documents must be in your current name in order for us to accept it.
We must see evidence of all your name changes (marriage certificate, deed poll).
However, we can accept a marriage certificate with your previous name as a group 2 ID document.
Group 1 ID documents
- Passport - any valid passport
- UK driving licence photocard - must be still valid and have the correct name and home address
- UK - Adoption Certificate - UK document
- UK - birth certificate issued within 1 year of birth - a birth certificate must have been issued within 1 year of your birth to be classed as a group 1 document. If it wasn't then you can use it as a group 2 document however you must still provide an alternative group 1 document
- UK e-Visa accessed via the 'View and Prove' service. The share code requested by the applicant should be an 'immigration status' share code
- UK Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) - UK document only
- UK Application Registration Card (ARC) issued by the Home Office
Group 2 ID documents
- UK paper version of driving licence - UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands, name and address must be up to date
- non-UK driving licence photocard outside of the UK (excluding Isle of Man and Channel Islands)
- birth certificate - UK document only - issued more than one year after birth
- marriage or civil partnership certificate - UK or the Channel Islands document only
- HM Forces ID card or Veteran Card - UK document only
- firearms licence - UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands document only
- mortgage statement - UK document only issued within the last 12 months
- bank or building society statement - UK document only - issued within the last 3 months. A print off of a bank statement that is endorsed with a stamp and signed by the bank is acceptable if you cannot have hard copy bank statements posted to you
- bank or building society account opening confirmation letter - UK document only ,issued within the last 3 months
- credit card statement - UK document only, issued within the last 3 months
- financial statement - UK and Channel Islands document only, issued within the last 12 months, for examples, pension or endowment
- P45 or P60 statement - UK and Channel Islands document only - issued within the last 12 months, original only - cannot be online document or printed from online account/PDF
- Council Tax statement - UK document only, issued within the last 12 months
- utility bill - UK document only, not mobile telephone bill
- benefit statement - UK document only - for example, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), free school meals, universal credit, asylum support
- government letter giving entitlement - UK and Channel Islands document only - for example from the Department for Work and Pensions or a local authority
- HMRC self assessment letters or tax demand letters - UK document only
- EHIC/GHIC cards - UK document only - must still be valid
- EEA National ID card - must still be valid
- cards carrying the PASS logo - UK, Isle of Man and Channel Islands document only
Checking your ID documents
There are 2 options for checking your ID documents.
Option 1 - drop in at a library
You can take your 3 ID documents to one of the following libraries and show them to a librarian who'll send us photocopies of the documents:
You can drop into a library whenever they are open, but check opening times before visiting.
When you arrive at the library, tell the librarian that you have some ID documents that you'd like them to check and send photocopies to the child employment and entertainment team at Derbyshire County Council.

When you submit your application or renewal, you can provide us with your availability and we'll confirm your appointment once we've reviewed your submission.
Do not travel to County Hall until you've had your appointment confirmed.
