Mental Health Awareness Week at Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service

Mental Health Awareness Week is a national campaign led by the Mental Health Foundation, encouraging everyone to take simple steps to look after their mental health. This year's theme focuses on everyday actions that help us feel calmer, more connected and more in control.

Supporting your wellbeing through learning

At Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service (DACES), we believe that learning is a powerful way to support wellbeing. Whether you want to build confidence, reduce stress, connect with others or simply take time for yourself, our Brightside and health and wellbeing courses offer a safe, friendly space to grow.

Why Mental Health Awareness Week matters

Many of us experience stress, worry or low mood at different points in our lives. Small changes - like moving more, connecting with others, or learning something new - can make a real difference.

The Mental Health Foundation's toolkit encourages simple, everyday habits that support wellbeing. Inspired by these ideas, we're highlighting opportunities at DACES that help you:

  • build confidence and resilience
  • learn practical strategies for managing stress
  • improve your physical and emotional wellbeing
  • connect with others in a supportive environment
  • explore new skills that bring joy and purpose

Brightside courses: a safe space to grow

Our Brightside programme offers supportive learning for adults who may be experiencing mild to moderate mental ill health, low confidence, anxiety, or barriers to learning. These courses focus on gentle progression, building self‑esteem and helping learners reconnect with education at their own pace.

Brightside courses include:

  • creative arts for wellbeing
  • building confidence through learning
  • digital skills for independence
  • everyday English and maths in a supportive setting
  • small, friendly groups with personalised support
