Accessibility strategy for disabled pupils and pupils with special educational needs
This strategy sets out our proposals to increase access to school education for disabled pupils, in the schools for which it is responsible.
The children's services accessibility strategy covers the 3 areas required by the planning duties in the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA):
- increasing the extent to which disabled pupils can participate in the curriculum
- improving the physical environment of schools to increase the extent to which disabled pupils can take advantage of education and associated services
- improving the delivery to disabled pupils of information which is provided in writing for pupils who are not disabled
The strategy is made up of 3 sections:
- The starting points.
- Priorities.
- Making it happen.
Each section is divided into sub-headings in line with the guidance framework for the publication of accessibility strategies. For ease of reference throughout this strategy the terms Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (LDD) are used interchangeably.
