Workplace mental health is the theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day

Published: 7 October 2024

We are supporting World Mental Health Day on 10 October 2024.

This year’s theme, set by the World Federation of Mental Health, is workplace mental health.

The theme highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, for the benefit of people, organisations, and communities.

At least 1 in 6 workers experience common mental health problems, including anxiety and depression.

Mental ill-health is a leading cause of sickness absence in the UK, accounting for 12.7% of all sickness absence days each year.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Communities, Councillor Carol Hart said:

“Talking about our mental health can help us cope better with life’s ups and downs.

“Many of us will spend a significant part of our lives at work, so ensuring that our emotional and mental health in the workplace is well looked after is vital.

“We’re supporting World Mental Health Day, raising awareness of the workplace support on offer and encouraging you to check in with your friends, family, peers, and colleagues.”

We offer free mental health awareness training to increase the skills and confidence of Derbyshire organisations including staff and volunteers.

If your Derbyshire workplace would like free health and wellbeing support, then the Healthy Workplaces Derbyshire team can help. They can arrange to carry out free health checks for your workplace including blood pressure checks as well as taking measurements of cholesterol and glucose levels.
