Recovery Month Grants highlight the support on offer in Derbyshire

Published: 15 August 2023

We're working with local organisations to support people recovering from substance misuse.

We have approved nearly £4,000 to 5 local organisations to hold events during Recovery Month.

Recovery Month is a national event which takes place in September each year.

Our Cabinet Member for Health and Communities, Councillor Carol Hart said:

“Recovery Month is a chance to show that recovery from substance use is possible.

“It can help to reduce and challenge the stigma around addiction, and also helps towards building recovery communities so that people can begin to rebuild vital social connections in their local communities.”

The following 5 local organisations have received funding to run activities:

  • Global Adventure Missions Ltd for the Night of Lights Recovery Walk. £710
  • Kelsey Family CIC for a Recovery Open Day. £1,255
  • Pathways of Chesterfield for a Recovery Open Day. £235
  • Derventio Charitable Trust for a Recovery Walking Cryptic Quiz. £879.95
  • Go Wild in Wirksworth CIC for Recovery Forest School Sessions. £920

Councillor Hart added:

“Substance use and the health harms that go alongside it, is a highly complex challenge.

“But by funding recovery activities in communities we can help share the message that recovery is possible, and that support is out there.”

In March 2023 a total of £226,000 was awarded to 6 organisations to fund recovery projects across Derbyshire.

Projects included work coaching to people in recovery to help them access work experience and employment, family-based recovery services to those affected by substance misuse, and projects to build self confidence and self-esteem.
