The campaign is delivered in partnership with Derby City Council, Joined Up Care Derbyshire and other local health organisations.
It brings together practical guidance, expert advice and local support services covering everything from preconception health to what to expect during pregnancy.
Healthy Beginnings aims to give people who are planning a family – as well as those already pregnant – clear information to help give their baby the best start in life.
Research consistently shows that the health and wellbeing of both parents before pregnancy can have a significant impact on fertility, healthy development and long‑term outcomes for babies.
The campaign focuses on supporting parents to understand the steps they can take to ensure their pregnancy journey is healthy and positive.
The Healthy Beginnings campaign will highlight these key messages, alongside advice on nutrition, exercise, emotional wellbeing, and where to find support across Derbyshire.
Cllr Dawn Taylor, Cabinet Member for Health and Communities, welcomed the campaign’s launch, saying:
Starting a family is one of life’s most exciting journeys, but it can also sometimes feel a bit overwhelming.
Healthy Beginnings brings together reliable local support to help parents-to-be make informed choices about their health and wellbeing.
By focusing on both preconception and pregnancy health, we can give Derbyshire’s children the very best start in life.
“The parents and the children started talking to me, they say thank you for helping them cross the road and when it’s the 6-week holidays they bring little presents.”
By focusing on both preconception and pregnancy health, we can give Derbyshire’s children the very best start in life.
Parents-to-be will find information on topics including:

Councillor Alison Martin, Derby City Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Care said:
Having children is a big step in life, and in Derby we want every family to be able to get off to a good start.
