Launch into kindness this RSE day

Published: 27 June 2023

We are encouraging Derbyshire residents to look at healthy relationships and how we can be kind to each other during national Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) Day.

RSE day, on 29 June 2023, helps give young people the information, skills and positive values to have safe fulfilling relationships and this year the theme is ‘Launch into Kindness’.

Schools and other organisations across the country will be taking in part in lots of different activities related to the theme of kindness.

Some top tips for spreading a little kindness include:

  1. Be kind to the environment - plant a wildflower garden; make bird feeders together; create a mini pond; go on a litter pick; explore what nature is on your doorstep.
  2. Have a kindness day when all the family take it in turns to do something nice for someone else.
  3. Read a book about kindness with your child or children. Talk about how important kindness is and how we can show it to others.

RSE Day is also an opportunity for professionals to share what works well and reflect on success.

This year we are partnering with libraries, Derbyshire Community Health Care Services and schools to raise the profile of RSE day.

Hundreds of Derbyshire schools are also working towards the 'Building Effective Relationships Together' Award - with 38 already having achieved a bronze award.

Our Public Health department commissions this award to support the teaching of RSE in schools.

Our Cabinet Member for Health and Communities Councillor Carol Hart said:

“RSE teaches young people to respect themselves and others. It also helps young people to mature, build their confidence and self-esteem.”

Our Cabinet Member for Education Councillor Alex Dale added:

“In Derbyshire everyone is able to get involved in this year’s theme - Lets launch into Kindness.

“Good RSE helps young people learn how to be kind to themselves and show kindness in their relationships with others.”
