We have launched a public consultation to get people’s views about active travel – which includes walking, cycling or ‘wheeling’ – using a scooter, mobility scooter or wheelchair.
Local people are being urged to fill in a our Active Travel Masterplan survey and, if they wish, comment on a draft ‘Active Travel Masterplan’ for the area. The draft masterplan suggests a range of measures which would make active travel safer, more convenient and more appealing to a wider range of people and, together with the support of views gathered in the survey, will be instrumental when we make bids to the Government for funding to carry out ‘active travel’ improvements in the future.
In addition to the online survey there are some drop-in sessions being held for people to give their views. These are at the following locations from 1pm to 7pm:
- Hathersage Memorial Hall – Thursday 17 July 2025
- Bradwell War Memorial Hall – Tuesday 12 August 2025
It follows similar consultations already carried out in Belper, Glossop and Ilkeston last year.
Councillor Charlotte Hill, our Cabinet Member for potholes, highways and transport, said:
“Many rural areas suffer from poor transport connectivity, restricting residents’ access to opportunities and employment, while restricting how people access these beautiful areas.
“We welcome initiatives that offer people who travel in and around Derbyshire a choice in how they get around and measures which help communities to be better connected, support the local visitor economy, improve road safety and benefit health and wellbeing.
“We particularly want to know what local people in the Hope Valley want to see introduced to achieve these aims. So if you visit, live or work in the area, please take a few minutes to take part in the consultation.”
The draft Active Travel Masterplans have been funded by Active Travel England Capability and Ambition Fund.
The consultation will close on Sunday 24 August 2025.
