Have your say on local government reorganisation

The Government’s consultation about a new council or councils for Derbyshire launched on 5 February 2026 and will be open for seven weeks.

Once feedback is received the Government will consider the different options proposed to them before making a final decision on which proposal works best for Derbyshire. The breakdown of key dates can be found in our timeline.

Thanks to everyone who took part in our public engagement exercise in summer 2025 to help inform our proposal.

District and borough councils, together with Derby City Council, also ran a consultation at around the same time to help inform their proposal.
