Great value

At a time when we are all feeling the financial squeeze, we don’t want any one to be deterred from joining our courses because of costs. So we want to help:

  • Over 65 per cent of our learners already qualify for a discount or financial help. Check if that includes you by calling your local Adult community Education Centre or our information line on 08 456 058 058.

  • Many of our courses are heavily discounted. You can do a level 1/2 computer course for as little as £1.50 per hour, learn with your children for free or even take a maths or English GCSE for free (you just pay the examination fee). We will also be making special monthly offers throughout the year.

  • We have 27 main adult community education centres and over 150 smaller venues throughout the county so you should not have to travel very far to find a suitable course.

  • Many of our courses can help you to save money. For instance how about learning to grow your own food; make your own clothes, cards and presents; find out about buying and selling on eBay and other IT ideas; learn new hobbies that needn’t be too costly like Family History which you can research free in Derbyshire libraries. We have many more ideas like this to share with you and will be launching our ‘Learn to Save’ programme soon.

Taking action to be greener

We are working hard to reduce our carbon footprint with the following actions:

  • Reducing energy use in our centres

  • Increasing recycling

  • Promoting courses and events that focus on sustainability

  • Using innovative ideas to get green ideas included in as many of our courses as possible

  • We are planning to further develop our College of the Peak activity by building a new Eco Centre which will act as a regional and national showcase for sustainable development.
